How to make a holiday wreath at home

DIY Holiday Evergreen Wreath Instructions

Materials Provided in Your Kit:

  1. Wreath frame (12-16 inches in diameter)
  2. Floral wire spool
  3. Bundles of evergreen clippings (a mix of Noble Fir, Fraser Fir, White Pine, Cedar, and Juniper)
  4. Decorative elements:
    • Red and pink pepper berries
    • Pine cones
    • Holly with red berries
    • Cinnamon sticks
    • Dried orange slices
    • Optional small ornaments
  5. Ribbon (for bow)
  6. Wire cutters

Additional Materials You May Need:

  • Scissors
  • Gloves (to protect your hands from sap and needles)

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace

Set up a comfortable workspace with enough room for all your materials. Lay down some newspaper or an old tablecloth to catch fallen needles and sap.

Step 2: Attach the Floral Wire

Take the spool of floral wire and attach it securely to the wreath frame. Wrap it a few times around the frame to ensure it's anchored well.

Step 3: Arrange and Bundle Your Greens

Gather small bunches of evergreen clippings (about 3-5 stems per bunch). Mix different types of greens, like a sprig of Noble Fir with a bit of Cedar and Juniper, to add texture.

Step 4: Start Attaching the Greens to the Frame

Place the first bundle of greens on the wreath frame. Wrap the floral wire tightly around the base of the stems, securing them to the frame. Continue wrapping to secure the greens firmly.

Step 5: Layer the Greens Around the Frame

Lay the next bundle of greens slightly overlapping the first, facing in the same direction around the frame. Continue adding and wrapping bundles, moving along the frame until it is covered.

Step 6: Secure the Last Bundle

Once you reach the starting point, carefully lift the first bundle and tuck the last one underneath it to create a seamless look. Wrap the floral wire a few extra times to secure, then cut and tuck the wire end.

Step 7: Add Decorative Elements

Attach decorative items like pepper berries, pine cones, and holly. Use extra floral wire to secure each item. For a more natural look, space decorations evenly around the wreath.

Step 8: Add a Ribbon or Bow

Tie a ribbon into a bow and attach it to the bottom of the wreath using floral wire. This adds a festive touch and completes the look.

Step 9: Adjust and Fluff

Step back and examine your wreath. Make adjustments to any greenery or decorative elements, ensuring they’re securely attached and arranged evenly.

Tips for a Lasting Wreath:

  • Mist your wreath with water every few days to keep it fresh.
  • Keep it in a cool area, out of direct sunlight.
